Tchaikovsky: Pique Dame

In the upcoming season 2013-14 Robbert van Steijn will conduct a new production of Pique Dame at the Opera in Halle. The première will be on 5 May 2014 at 19:30. Information about the creative team as well as the cast will follow.

Ballet: Das Phantom der Oper

The Theater, Oper und Orchester Halle produced a new balletproduction, choregraphed and directed by Ralf Rossa. Robbert van Steijn  conducts the Staatskapelle Halle in music by Michael Nyman, Frederic Chopin, Alexander Glazunov and Camille Saint Saëns. The ballet is based on the novel by the French writer  Gaston Leroux. The set design is by Dorin Gal, costumes are designed by Götz Lancelot Fischer.

The casting is as follows: Erik, Phantom: Michel Sedlacek / Andrij Holubovskyy; Christine Daaé, a dancer: Ludivine Revazov-Dutriez / Hyona Lee; Raoul, Vivomte de Chagny: Johan Plaitano / Dalier Burchanow; Madame Giry: Kaori Morito / Constanze Hubalek / Denise Dumröse; Carlotta Sorelli, Primaballerina: Marketa Slapotova / Marion Schwarz; Richard und Moncharmin, opera directors: Andrij Holuboskyy / Vaclav Sutorka / Gorden Wannhoff / Thiago Fayad. Further: solo dancers and ensemble and the Staatskapelle Halle.

Premiere was on 30 November 2012 at the Oper Halle. More performances throughout the season.

Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel

Robbert van Steijn conducted the new production of Hänsel und Gretel at the Opera in Halle, directed by Matthias Hüstebeck with a set design and with costumes by Juan León. André Meyer took care of the dramaturgy.

The cast:
Gretel: Inez Lex / Marie Friederike Schöder; Hänsel: Sandra Maxheimer / Olivia Saragosa; Vater: Matthias Henneberg / Gerd Vogel; Mutter: Romelia Lichtenstein / Sabine Brohm; Sand-Taumännchen: Kaori Sekigawa / Julia Preussler; weiter: Kinderchor und Chor der Theater, Oper und Orchester Halle; Staatskapelle Halle.

Première was on 12 October 2012 at the Oper Halle with further performances on 17 October, 2, November, 2, 3, 9, 10, 12, 15, 19, 22, 23 (2x) and 25 December 2012. The production will be revived in the upcoming season.

Wagner: Parsifal

Robbert van Steijn had been asked to assist Ivan Fischer in the new production of Parsifal at The Netherlands Opera, directed by Pierre Audi. The set design came from Anish Kapoor, Costumes were designed by Christof Hetzer, lighting design by Jean Kalman and choreography by Gail Skrela.  The title role  was sung by Christopher Ventris, Gurnemanz by Falk Struckmann and Kundry by Petra Lang. Allejandro Marco-Buhrmester sings Amfortas, Mikhail Petrenko, Klingsor and Titurel. Blumenmädchen were Lisette Bolle (also Knappe), Oleksandra Lenyshyn, Inez Hafkamp, Tomoko Makuuchi, Melanie Greve and  Rosanne van Sandwijk (also Knappe). Erik Slik and Jeroen de Vaal were Knappen, Roger Smeets and Jean-Léon Klostermann were Gralsritter. Stimme aus der Höhe was sung by Marieke Reuten. Further: The Chorus of The Netherlands Opera with chorusmaster Martin Wright and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The premiere was at 20 May 2012 in the Muziektheater in Amsterdam at 17.00 hours. Other performances were on 15, 18, 21, 28 June and 2 5 8 July 2012.

Verdi: La Traviata

Robbert van Steijn returned to the Nationale Reisopera  to conduct the revival of their critically acclaimed production of La Traviata. The premiere took place on January 21  2012, and toured for 13 performances throughout the Netherlands.  La Traviata was directed by Monique Wagemakers with a set design by John Otto, costumes by Rien Bekkers and lightdesign by Reinier Tweebeeke. The soloists were: Petya Ivanova (Violetta Valéry); Karin Strobos (Flora Bervoix); Carol Rowlands (Annina); Peter Auty (Alfredo Germont); Roland Wood (Georgio Germont); Ashley Catling (Gastone); Peter Bording (Barone Douphol); Kris Belligh (Marchese d’Obigny); Dottore Grenvil (Gregorsz Stachowiak); The Chorus of the Nationale Reisopera had been prepared by Allistair Lilley and The North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra accompanied the performances.
